For what purposes can the common property of the spouses be used for?

The Law on Marriage and Family 2014 provides that the common property of the spouses may be used for the following purposes:

  • Expenses to meet the family’s essential needs;
  • To perform the common obligations of husband and wife.

“Essential needs” is defined as ordinary needs for food, clothing, accommodation, learning, medical care, and similiar needs which are indispensable to the life of each person and family.

The husband and wife are jointly liable for the common debts of the family and for payment by common property.
